In April 2011, Dr. Matthew was invited by University of California Berkeley to teach a two-week long course “Patent Strategy and Innovation” at Tsinghua University under Berkeley-Tsinghua’s GTE program. This course was well attended by 50 top students who were selected by UC Berkeley.
December 2010 Beijing
Dr. Matthew Ma was invited to be a guest speaker at the "Intellectual Property Education and Professional Training" Seminar co-organized by Beijing Intellectual Property Research Society and Beijing Intellectual Property Research Center. Dr. Ma delivered his speech titled “The Demand of Intellectual Property Professionals in U.S. and its Education System”. Other guest speakers at the seminar included executives from the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and Beijing Intellectual Property Bureau.

Dr. Matthew Ma delivered a guest speech at the “Innovation and IP Management Executive Seminar" co-organized by Beijing Municipal Committee of Economics and Information Technology (BMCEIT) and Chinese International Intellectual Property Services Ltd (CIIPS). Dr. Ma’s topic focused on intellectual property commercialization.
April 2010 Berkeley
Dr. Matthew Ma was invited to "Patent Engineering" class at University of California Berkeley to have a dialogue with their students. He also delivered a talk titled “Patent Protection and Commercialization” focusing on how important patent protection is for capitalizing innovation. The “Patent Engineering” taught at Berkeley also uses Dr. Ma’s book “Fundamentals of Patenting and Licensing for Scientists and Engineers”.
April 2010 San Jose and Stanford
On April 16, 2010, Dr. Matthew Ma delivered a talk to entrepreneurs at Silicon Valley. The event was co-organized by OCAHT (海外华人高新技术协会), UCAA (中国高等校院校校友会联合会) , SVTUAA (硅谷天津大学校友会), and SFNUAA (旧金山湾区南开校友会). Dr. Ma talked in an easy-to-understand language about the basics of IP and tips and pitfalls in patent protection for engineers.
On April 17, 2010, Dr. Matthew Ma was invited to talk about IP to alumni of Stanford University and Peking University at Silicon Valley. The two-hour long talk was well received by close to seventy scholars from the two organizations.
